Earth Day events this week:

Topanga Earth Day

When: Friday April 22 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Saturday April 23 and Sunday April 24, 2011  10:00 am – Sunset

Where: Topanga Community House Fair Grounds  1440 North Topanga Canyon Blvd.  Topanga, CA 90290

The 12th Annual Topanga Earth Day event benefiting Topanga Community Club, Doctors Without Borders and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be held April 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2011 at the Topanga Community Club Fair Grounds.  Take advantage of various parking locations throughout Topanga Canyon and hike to the fair or ride the free bio-diesel shuttle.  The Fine Art Gallery reception is on Friday, April 22nd from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm and the Earth Day Event is on Saturday and Sunday, April 23rd and 24th from 10:00 am until sunset.  Don’t miss this gathering of musical performers, guest speakers, artists, environmental organizations, environmental demonstration area (composting, water conservation, gardening, etc.), organic food and more.  Admission is a suggested donation of $12.  For more information visit www.topangaearthday.org.

Wilshire Center Earth Day/Car Free Day

When: Friday, April 22, 2011 6:00 pm

Where: Wilshire Center  3700 Wilshire Blvd.  Los Angeles, CA 90010

Wilshire Center’s Earth Day celebration will take place on Friday, April 22nd at 3700 Wilshire Blvd. on the lawn between Oxford Avenue and Serrano Avenue.  A free 35 foot movie screening of Avatar (director’s cut) will be shown in addition to a presentation of the Cool District Program and Carbon Master Plan, face painting for kids, community booths, ewaste recycling and tree adoption.  Dress warmly and bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the movie.  Friday is also the city wide car free day – Los Angeles residents are urged to use public transportation, bike, walk, carpool or use hybrid cars all day.  For more information visit www.wilshirecenter.com/earthday/.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium: Coastal Bird Fest

When: Saturday, April 23, 2011 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Where: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium 3720 Stephen White Drive  San Pedro, CA 90731

Join the coastal cleanup of Cabrillo Beach Coast Park Inner and Outer Beaches from 8:00 am – 10:00 am.  Then enjoy games, interactive activities, Earth-friendly displays and demonstrations at the Earth Day Fair from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Learn how to make your home eco-friendly and watch birds at the Salinas de San Pedro Salt Marsh.  Joel Harper, author of “All The Way to the Sea” will be present to sign his book.  Admission is free and beach parking is $1/hour.  For more information call 310-548-7562 or visit www.cabrillomarineaquarium.org.

Los Angeles EarthFest Concert in the Park for the Environment & Expo

The Sixth Annual Los Angeles EartFest will rock your organic socks with musical performances, eco-friendly vendors and healthy lifestyle demonstrations and discussions.  Don’t miss the Kids’ Eco Kamp which will include games, activities and crafts.  Bring a bag of plastic trash to add to the sea monster, bring an old t-shirt to “up-cycle” into an Earth Day shopping bag and children 12 and under can bring their bikes to participate in a bicycle rodeo of obstacles.  Also included in the day’s festivities will be a free eco film festival that will screen a variety of environmentally-minded films for all ages.  Films include “Simon Says ‘Let’s Stop Climate Change!” – an animated adventure for kids, “The 11th Hour” – examines the dire state of our Planet Earth, narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, and “Bag It” – the award winning documentary addressing the problems with single-use plastics.  Event parking is at 5730 S.
