Earth Day Celebration – A Celebration of our Ocean Planet

Visit the Aquarium of the Pacific on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm for a celebration of our ocean planet in honor of Earth Day.  The celebration will include booths from earth-friendly organizations and hands-on demonstrations.  The festival activities are free with general admission and for members.  Bring an e-waste item to the e-waste booth in front of the Aquarium for $10 off one adult admission (discount valid April 9-10, 2011 only).  Visit www.aquariumofpacific.org or call 562-590-3100 ext 0 for more information.

Visit the James Gray Gallery in the Bergamot Station Art Center in Santa Monica on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm for the opening of Jack Sierad’s Sea Glass Art Exhibition.  Each beautiful piece contains approximately one month’s worth of hand-picked glass fragments from the Pacific Ocean sand beaches of the California coast.  The exhibit goes through April 24, 2011.  A portion of the proceeds benefit Heal the Bay.

Sierra Club Hike – Topanga State Park to Parket Mesa Overlook (Pacific Palisades)

When: Fridays 6:45 pm
Where: Meet @ Los Liones Drive at Sunset Blvd for rideshare to trailhead

Join the Sierra Club for a 2 hour, 5 mile hike in Topanga State Park with a view of the LA Basin and Santa Monica Bay. This group meets every Friday. Bring flashlight. Rain cancels. For more information visit the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Outings website.

Long Beach Museum of Art – Free Fridays

When: Fridays 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
Where: Long Beach Museum of Art: 2300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located on a magnificent bluff-top site overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus includes the historic Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house and carriage house (built in 1912), oceanfront gardens, and a pavilion with two floors of expansive gallery space for changing exhibitions. The historic buildings are home to administrative offices and Restaurant. In addition to changing exhibitions, the Museum offers extensive educational programs for children and adults, musical programs, festivals, and other special events. Open Tuesday – Sunday from 11am – 5pm. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students/seniors and free for members and children under 12. Admission is free for all every Friday. Sierra Club Hike – Long Beach El Dorado Nature Center Walk

TreePeople Santa Monica Mountains Restoration

TreePeople Angeles Mountains Restoration

Join TreePeople and Forest Aid in a massive volunteer effort to replant and restore the fire-damaged areas of the Angeles National Forest.  This is a wonderful way to learn about our local forests and restore wildlife habitat.  All volunteers must register to attend.  For more information and to register visit the TreePeople website.

Downtown Santa Monica Walking Tour

When: Saturday, April 9, 2011 10:00 am
Where: Hostelling International Lobby: 1436 2nd Street, Santa Monica

Explore more than 130 years of Santa Monica history from its Wild West frontier beginnings to the metropolis of today. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for Santa Monica Conservancy members for this two hour six block tour of downtown Santa Monica. LA City Ranger Family Nature Hike and Nature Education Center

When: Saturday, April 9, 2011 10am
Where: White Point Nature Preserve: 1600 Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will lead a nature hike through the White Point Nature Preserve every Saturday (except holidays) at 10am. The Preserve features 102 acres of native plants and coastal sage scrub habitat, over 100 species of birds, hiking trails and a new Nature Education Center (adapted from a historic Cold War Assembly building on the site) overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island. The Center is surrounded by a California native plant demonstration garden. Materials in the Center’s interior are built out of sustainable products including 100% recycled curbside glass, low carbon concrete counters and natural bamboo cabinets.
