Snakes Hike

Join the Los Angeles City Rangers at White Point Nature Preserve for a guided snake hike on the 102-acre preserve in San Pedro overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island.  The hike will be easy to moderate and all ages are welcome.  For more information visit pvplc.org or call the center at 310-561-0917.

Romeo and Juliet: Shakespeare by the Sea

Where: Point Fermin Park, 807 Paseo del Mar, San Pedro, CA 90731  Map It

Enjoy the Grand Finale performance of Romeo and Juliet at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro.  Bench seats are available or you can set up chairs and blankets on the grass.  It can get very chilly in the evening as the park is right on the ocean.  The performance is free, donations are gratefully accepted.  Bring a picnic dinner or purchase the Grand Finale decadent dining package which includes reserved seating, gourmet picnic, dessert and a signed program.  Seating and booths open at 7:00 pm, the show begins at 8:00 pm.

Stream Team Restoration at Malibu Creek State Park

Join Heal the Bay and the Mountains Restoration Trust to restore areas of Malibu Creek State Park.  This even will take place in a shady and cool spot in the Tapia Unit of Malibu Creek State Park, marked with a sign that reads “Malibu Creek State Park” and in smaller letters, “Tapia”.

Two Gentlemen of Verona: Shakespeare by the Sea

Free Concert in the Park: Sin Twins

When: Sunday, August 12, 2012 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Where: Polliwog Park, 1601 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266  Map It

Enjoy a Rhythm and Blues Revue concert in the park (Sin Twins performing) at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach.  Set up chairs and blankets on the grass, bring a picnic and enjoy an evening of great music.  Fresh Brothers pizza and shaved ice are sold in the gazebo, an ice cream truck parks on Manhattan Beach Blvd.  Arrive early as street parking and grass space fills up quickly.  It can get chilly in the evening as the park is near the ocean.  The concert is free, donations are gratefully accepted.  Please note that dogs are not allowed in the grassy picnic area where the concert is held but they are allowed in other parts of the park.

TreePeople Events

Where: throughout Los Angeles

TreePeople offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including tree planting, tree care, mountain restoration, reforestation, park maintenance, seedling nursery, photography. Minors (accompanied by an adult) are welcome. Visit their calendar to select an activity and sign-up by pre-registering. Once you register, TreePeople will contact you with event details and directions.

During the week of August 10-16, 2012, TreePeople has the following on their calendar: Santa Monica Mountains Restoration, Park Tree Care and a Third Thursday Community Tree Walk. Check out their calendar for more information.
