LA City Ranger Family Nature Hike and Nature Education Center

When: Saturday, July 24, 2010  Two hikes – 9am and 12pm
Where: White Point Nature Preserve: 1600 Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will lead two nature hikes through the White Point Nature Preserve on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 9am and 12pm.  The Preserve features 102 acres of native plants and coastal sage scrub habitat, over 100 species of birds, hiking trails and a new Nature Education Center (adapted from a historic Cold War Assembly building on the site) overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island.   The Center is surrounded by a California native plant demonstration garden.  Materials in the Center’s interior are built out of sustainable products including 100% recycled curbside glass, low carbon concrete counters and natural bamboo cabinets.  The Center is open to the public from 10am-4pm on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.  For more information call 310-541-7613 or visit

Malibu Lagoon Cleanup

Heal the Bay is hosting a Malibu Lagoon cleanup in conjunction with the Stream Team and California State Parks.  This amazing volunteer opportunity is open to all.  Volunteers must sign both a Stream Team and California State Parks waiver (waivers will also be available at the event).  Participants must be 12 years old or accompanied by a parent.  Volunteers will learn to identify native and invasive plants and will get the opportunity to plant native vegetation, remove non-native invasive plants and clean-up the lagoon.  Meet in the parking lot at the intersection of PCH and Cross Creek Road and be ready to get your hands dirty and your feet wet!  To RSVP call 310-451-1500 x117 or use this contact form.  For more information visit  Required waivers can be found here.
