Join people across the globe for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26, 2011 from 8:30pm – 9:30pm local time.  At 8:30pm turn off your lights and non-essential appliances for 60 minutes to pledge your commitment to the Earth.  This grassroots movement began in Australia in 2007 and is held on the last Saturday of March every year.  Here are some suggestions for ways to spend Earth Hour whether you stay home or go out on the town in Los Angeles:  EcoBuzz Earth Hour How-To Guide.

Sierra Club Hike – Topanga State Park to Parket Mesa Overlook (Pacific Palisades)

Where: Meet @ Los Liones Drive at Sunset Blvd for rideshare to trailhead

Long Beach Museum of Art – Free Fridays

When: Fridays 11am – 5pm
Where: Long Beach Museum of Art: 2300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located on a magnificent bluff-top site overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus includes the historic Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house and carriage house (built in 1912), oceanfront gardens, and a pavilion with two floors of expansive gallery space for changing exhibitions. The historic buildings are home to administrative offices and Restaurant. In addition to changing exhibitions, the Museum offers extensive educational programs for children and adults, musical programs, festivals, and other special events. Open Tuesday – Sunday from 11am – 5pm. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students/seniors and free for members and children under 12. Admission is free for all every Friday. Sierra Club Hike – Long Beach El Dorado Nature Center Walk

Downtown Santa Monica Walking Tour

When: Saturday, March 26, 2011 10am
Where: Hostelling International Lobby: 1436 2nd Street, Santa Monica

Explore more than 130 years of Santa Monica history from its Wild West frontier beginnings to the metropolis of today. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 for Santa Monica Conservancy members for this two hour six block tour of downtown Santa Monica. LA City Ranger Family Nature Hike and Nature Education Center

When: Saturday, March 26, 2011  10am
Where: White Point Nature Preserve: 1600 Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will lead a nature hike through the White Point Nature Preserve every Saturday (except holidays) at 10am. The Preserve features 102 acres of native plants and coastal sage scrub habitat, over 100 species of birds, hiking trails and a new Nature Education Center (adapted from a historic Cold War Assembly building on the site) overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island. The Center is surrounded by a California native plant demonstration garden. Materials in the Center’s interior are built out of sustainable products including 100% recycled curbside glass, low carbon concrete counters and natural bamboo cabinets. What to Plant From Seed in April

Stop by the Mar Vista Community Council Green Booth on Sunday, March 27th from 9am-1pm and learn what to plant from seed in April in Los Angeles.  The Master Gardeners will be there with a selection of seedlings.  Come on out and ask your spring planting questions!

Los Angeles Film Premiere – The Economics of Happiness
