Good Food Day LA

When: Saturday, March 31, 2012 8:30 am – 12:00 pm

Where: Los Angeles Citywide

Good Food Day LA is a citywide event, with activities at nearly forty event sites, dedicated to learning about, celebrating and volunteering to strengthen our local food system. Volunteers throughout Los Angeles, along with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, will work together to share information about how we can move toward a more healthy, fair and sustainable food system. In addition to events across Los Angeles including an edible gardening demonstration, workshops and food fairs, a closing ceremony festival at Metabolic Studio will feature a resource fair, food trucks, chef demonstrations, live music, cooking contest and panel discussion on the question of Fair Food. Earth Hour

When: Saturday, March 31, 2012 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Where: Everywhere

Join people across the globe by shutting off your nonessential lights and electronic devices for one hour on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8:30 pm local time. More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour last year. TreePeople Events

When: throughout the week, see the TreePeople calendar

Where: throughout Los Angeles

TreePeople offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including tree planting, tree care, mountain restoration, reforestation, park maintenance, seedling nursery, photography. Minors (accompanied by an adult) are welcome. Visit their calendar to select an activity and sign-up by pre-registering. Once you register, TreePeople will contact you with event details and directions.

Sierra Club Outings

A few of the Sierra Club outings for this week include a Pacific Palisades Hike (Friday) Long Beach El Dorado Park Nature Walk (Saturday morning), Manhattan Beach Hike/Brunch (Sunday), and various conditioning hikes in Rancho Palos Verdes, San Pedro/Palos Verdes, Irvine and Puente Hills, Signal Hill and Pasadena.
