Native Plant Sale

When: Saturday & Sunday, October 27 & 28, 2012 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Where: Sepulveda Garden Center 16633 Magnolia Blvd. Encino, CA 91436 Map It

Visit the Sepulveda Garden Center in Encino this weekend for a HUGE native plant sale from 10 am – 4 pm and two free native plant gardening talks on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm.  Saturday’s talk is “Container Gardening with California Native Plants”.  Sunday’s talk is “Twelve Months of Color with California Natives”.

The garden center will offer 50 different California native species many which can survive with natural rainfall once established.  Wildflower seed mixes will also be available.  Experienced gardeners from the California Native Plant Society will be available to help you select plants that will work in your garden.  For the complete list of available plants click HERE.

Beginner Gardening Class

Where: Crenshaw Community Garden  1423 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019  Map It

This series of beginning gardening classes starts on October 27th and runs for four Saturdays – Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17.  Sessions are led by UC-certified master gardeners.  $30 for 4 classes for residents of 90016, 90018, 90019 (or $10 for single classes) and $50 for 4 classes (or $15 for single classes) for all others.  Contact Kim Trimiew for more information: 323-472-1787 or


Fall Festival at WAYS Park

When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Heal the Bay is hosting their first fall holiday festival on the lot of the future WAYS Reading and Fitness Park.  This family friendly Halloween event will include pumpkin carving and crafts.  Visit for more information.


TreePeople Events

When: throughout the week, see the TreePeople calendar

Where: throughout Los Angeles

TreePeople offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including tree planting, tree care, mountain restoration, reforestation, park maintenance, seedling nursery, photography. Minors (accompanied by an adult) are welcome. Visit their calendar to select an activity and sign-up by pre-registering. Once you register, TreePeople will contact you with event details and directions.

During the week of October 26-November 1, 2012, TreePeople has the following on their calendar: Street Tree Care, Full Moon Hike, and Park Work Day. Check out their calendar for more information.


Sierra Club Outings

When: throughout the week, see the Angeles Chapter Activities Calendar (rain may cancel)

Where: throughout Los Angeles

A few of the Sierra Club outings for this week include a Pacific Palisades Hike (Friday), Long Beach El Dorado Park Nature Walk (Saturday morning), Abalone Cove (Saturday), Santa Monica Pier and City Walk (Saturday) and various conditioning hikes in Rancho Palos Verdes, Long Beach, San Pedro/Palos Verdes, Irvine, Signal Hill and Pasadena.
