Here is a list of volunteer opportunities in the Los Angeles area for Thanksgiving 2012. Many of the places still need volunteers and donations of food, sleeping bags, and other necessities.

Food on Foot is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets. They distribute food and clothing every Sunday and are in need of volunteers to donate an hour of their time on one or more Sundays throughout the year. Food on Foot also offers a Thanksgiving program. The Thanksgiving Day volunteers are required to donate $100 per person (club members exempt). Use the volunteer signup page to register.
Los Angeles Mission’s annual Thanksgiving celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Volunteers will dish up thousands of Thanksgiving meals and distribute blankets and tarps for the cold season. To make a donation visit www.losangelesmission.org/give/donate-now/. Union Station’s Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park brings a warm meal to over 7,000 homeless or low income men, women, and children. The volunteer openings for Thanksgiving 2012 are currently closed. The Westside Thanksgiving Celebration provides a free day of services including Thanksgiving Dinner, medical/eye consultations, haircuts, and clothing distributions. It is held on Thanksgiving Day from 11 am – 3pm in the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. They rely on volunteers and donations from the local community and are looking for volunteers and donations of clothing, food, drinks, and sleeping bags.
